This world of ours is filled with rules and regulations which seldom make sense. And these are written rules and regulations.
The spoken yet unwritten ones are worse. There isn't any order, any script or reason to obey and abide by them.
Some of the most commonly used unwritten rules are surrounding a girl, and yes, that includes Sex too.

We should protect the girl till she comes of marriageable age so that we can marry her off to a stranger. It's more like Selling an item but that's totally ok. Any price is after all negotiable. And calling it "money for her well-being" or "property to keep her happy"
are terms that make the entire situation more endearing.
are terms that make the entire situation more endearing.
Roaming outside after the sun has set puts a girl in danger and is a huge Shame - Shame.
Girl on her periods? "Chee"
But getting it for the first time? "Oh my, the Goddess has arrived! "
And the pads and tampons and stigma around that? Black cover for pads. A big no-no for tampons. You can't insert anything into your vagina you see, it's highly wrong.
Clothes are meant for covering the body. Wearing that saree that shows off your back a little too much or that chudidar with the low neck is acceptable while wearing jeans will get you all the dirty looks.
Those are a few of the common ones most of us have heard about. In this modern Era, there are few prevailing that will shock you. (As though the above aren't a shock by themselves)
If a girl is fat, her chances of finding love through marriage is nil. Beauty on the outside is far more important that what is on the inside, right?!
Everyone is watching so always be on your best behavior. Don't talk to guys. Don't post pictures with them on social media. Don't post pictures itself on social media. Everyone can see you and judge you because their opinion matters a lot for your existence.
Just stay at home and cook. Why do you want to waste your time trying to become an engineer or a doctor. Not like you will work after getting married. Your husband will earn the daily bread while you sit at home, taking care of the children.
For a Hindu girl, the bindhi, bangles, necklace and fully covered body make her a respected lady in the society. Going on road trips, college, having a social life, having an independent life makes her a worthless wanna-be.
Society. I am not the first and I will not be the last one to tell you, not being ladylike in your rule book doesn't make us any less of a woman.
And whether it is at being a housewife or a businesswoman or an adventurist or whatever we choose to become, we will be amazing at it, and it will be our choice. Don't force it down our throat hoping we will swallow it.
And sorry but not so sorry, I don't just preach, I follow my words. So, for all those forming their biased opinions about me? Let me save you the trouble and tell you this:
I am and will be an annoying, disturbed, awesome, independent woman and I hope you can handle the pressure that comes along with this package. 😊
